Dermod O'Malley
Commodore
Trevor Pountain
Vice Commodore
Susie Yates
Rear Commodore House
Susie joined us around 7 years ago as a cadet parent. She had been racing in the Solent for about 18 odd years, mainly doing foredeck and or nav, on a range of boats, from sportsboats (707’s , Melges, 1720’s) to X-boats, Sigma 33’s and a long stint on a J 105. Before that she spent her student years in Larks. She has scaled back her racing these last few years and is more often to be found doing rescue boat duty for the cadets. She has loved organizing cadet parties and cadet parent social events, so it seemed logical to step up to the role of RC House when it became available.
She lives locally with husband Mike (whom she met 20 plus years ago in Plymouth on a GK29) their two boys, rescue dog and a collection of dinghies.
Kathy Smalley
Honorary Club Secretary
David Criswick
Honorary Treasurer
David joined HRSC in November 1973 after purchasing Wayfarer No 229, which he sailed until about 1990, when he was the only Wayfarer left in the fleet. During this period, he acted as main contractor for the rebuilding of Phase 2 of the club building in 1980.
Sometime after 1990, David started crewing in Squib, “Soujee” (now the only Squib left!) and also started Foxer sailing and own “Ace” No 50. David has been responsible for the Bar accounts every year since HRSC had a bar, apart from the first year! David has been on the General committee for many years and was Rear Commodore House in about 1982/4 and has been Hon Treasurer since 1997, following on from his daughter and was much involved in the more recent refurbishment of the changing rooms.
Peggy Dorothy
Director of Cadets & Training
Peggy has been a member of HRSC for over 20 years, and has served on the Committee since 1998, including being Vice-Commodore in 2003, and Commodore from 2005 – 2009. She organises all the Cadet sailing for the club, and has recently started the popular WOW and MOB sailing evenings.
John Noë
General Committee and Club Moorings Officer
John joined HRSC in 1986 when he returned from a 10 year stint of working in France. He was Commodore from 1997 to 1999. After a 3 year absence from the general committee to allow others to have an unfettered approach to the job, John returned to life on the general committee in 2002 and has remained so ever since. At that time, he took over responsibility for the management of the club moorings and should be contacted by anyone looking for a club berth. John enjoys racing and cruising his X-332 and particularly since retiring from the electronics industry in 2005, likes to go off cruising for a significant part of the summer.
Barney Smith
General Committee
Barney joined HRSC in 2005 after moving to Hamble. However his connections with the club go back to the 1990s when he was a student at Southampton University and he was also Firefly Class chairman in 2002 when the club hosted the Firefly Nationals for the first time. Having grown up with the standard RYA route of Optimists, Mirrors and Toppers, Barney acquired a Firefly in his first year at University and still regularly competers in class events. He is now spending much of his time rebuilding his newly acquired Impala. As well as a stint as HRSC Rear Commodore Sailing in 2009/2010 Barney has also acted as British University Sailing Association Treasurer, and way back in the dim and distant past he was once the cadet commodore of Dabchicks Sailing Club!
Dominic Horner
General Committee
Dominic began sailing in the polluted waters of Hong Kong, starting in an Oppi and progressing through to Toppers, 420s, and Lasers. He has also spent far too many hours standing on a windsurf board but probably can’t remember how to anymore!
Whilst in England he has sailed Lasers, ISOs and eventually an International 14 as well as completing his dingy instructors certificate. Lately he has been sailing his own J92 “Jekyll” and a 64ft Dutch sailing barge which he lived on.
Marion O'Malley
General Committee
Roger Pritchard
General Committee
Roger has been a General committee member for the last two years and a past Commodore of HRSC 2001 – 2003. He’s the proud owner of “Seabiskit” a Maxi 1050, and a Foxer “Tally Ho” and is a keen club racer.
He is also a past Commodore of Draycote Water Sailing Club 1976 – 1978 and Chairman of the UK Fireball Association 1978 – 1980.
William Yonge
General Committee
Will has lived in Hamble since 1995, is married to Caroline, a WoW sailor, and has 2 children who are active cadet sailors at HRSC.
His sailing started in Mirrors and Firefly’s at Itchenor aged 8, and progressed through Fireballs, Int 14’s, ISO’s and then onto ‘big’ boats like Sonatas. He spent 5 years racing a Sigma 38, completing 3 Fastnet races, all the Winters Series and Spring Series, Cowes Weeks (including one week in an XoD) and RORC and JOG races during that time. In 2000 he sailed in the Commodores Cup for the England team.
Will is a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster, and have taken many guests out sailing for the first time, including racing during Cowes Week. He now works locally, managing a medical products company, and working as a sustainability consultant.
Since getting married, sailing has slowed down, and now he races a Foxer (occasionally) and sails their family cruiser which is kept on a River mooring, when not helping out with Cadets at HRSC.
Will is keen to develop the cadet sailing so that our younger sailors have the opportunity to race dinghies locally, so they too can progress through dinghies, possibly onto higher performance dinghies and maybe onto keel boats, to keep the Club active across all sailing classes, and to maintain Hamble River Sailing Club as a premier, well respected sailing club.
