The first Hamble Warming Pan regatta was held in 1962 when there were just two competing classes, Merlin Rockets and National 12 dinghies. Over the years the invite list expanded and eight classes attended the 2002 event. Racing is held in the confines of the River Hamble and is run by Hamble River Sailing Club, based near the centre of Hamble village. Warming Pan competitors come from all parts of the country but have always included a strong local contingent from the local riverside villages of Hamble and Warsash.
The 2013 Hamble Warming Pan, hosted by Hamble River Sailing Club, will take place on 16/17 March.
The six fleets which are invited to compete include the Merlin Rocket, Firefly, Enterprise, National 12 & Foxer classes, together with a new addition for 2013, the Albacore class.
The Merlin Rocket and Firefly classes will be counting the Warming Pan as an event in their respective annual travellers series, the Silver Tiller and Vines Trophies.
This year the Merlin Rocket fleet will race on Sunday only. All other classes will race on both days.
There will be two races each day for the Enterprise, Firefly, Albacore and National 12 fleets. The Foxer fleet will compete in four races each day.
Racing will start and finish on the HRSC club line, just five minutes sail from the launching area. The event Notice of Race is now available HERE
Entry fees have been kept at the same level as last year, just £25 for double-handed crews and £12.50 for single-handers. One day entry is also possible at £15 per boat for double-handers and £7 for single-handers.
The clubhouse will be open all weekend for hot drinks and food with the bar opening each lunchtime and on Saturday evening when dinner will be available – See Poster below for details!
